ALL CULTURE. NO SHOCK.

WE LOVE TO EXPERIENCE DIFFERENT CULTURES, AND BALI AND KUALA LUMPUR DIDN’T DISAPPOINT.

CAN-DO CANADA

Bali’s terraced rice fields and temples starkly contrasted with the vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Kuala Lumpur. In Bali, we stayed in three must-stay incense-fused locations: Ubud, Seminyak, and Uluwatu. A stand-out moment for us was sitting at a bar overlooking the jungle, watching monkeys swinging through the trees; it was an incredible experience. Next, Kuala Lumpur. We stayed at the JW Marriott Hotel, central to the hustle and bustle. On the second evening, we had a top-notch meal at Marini’s on 57. Arriving early for cocktails, we had the most phenomenal view of the Petronas Twin Towers and watched them gradually light up as darkness fell - a fantastic end to a fantastic holiday.

ANYONE THINKING OF EMBARKING ON A CANADIAN ADVENTURE, JUST DO IT! The first stop on our trip was laid-back Vancouver, with its glossy skyline, beautiful scenery, and the stunning Fairmont Waterfront. However, for me, the marine life was the most captivating. Seeing pods of orca and families of humpback whales was a dream come true! Next was the stunning Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies, with a postcard-worthy display of beauty at every turn. Quaint Canmore and the grand Malcolm Hotel were excellent bases for exploring Icefields Parkway, Lake Louise, and Moraine Lake. Our trip ended in cosmopolitan Toronto, where we stayed at One King West Hotel. The thundering Niagara Falls was the highlight - one of those pinch-me moments we’ll never forget.

CALIFORNIA DREAMING?

STEP INTO SOUTH AFRICA

IT’S NEVER ABOUT THE DESTINATION BUT THE JOURNEY. Our California road trip began in Monterey, where we enjoyed a whale-watching tour before exploring the beautiful, photogenic Big Sur. The trip then took us to Santa Barbara, where we’d highly recommend visiting the beautiful courthouse. Journeying inland to Sequoia National Park, Moro Rock is a must-see with its far-reaching views from the top. Then, we had an amazing photo opportunity from Tunnel View in Yosemite Valley. If you visit, you’ll not want to miss Mirror Lake and the Glacier Point walk towards Illilouette Falls, where you get a different perspective of Half Dome. Leaving Yosemite for Mammoth Lakes via the Tioga Pass was a beautiful drive with many fantastic stops, including Olmsted Point, Tenaya Lake and Tuolumne Meadows. The final stop was South Lake Tahoe, a great atmosphere town. We took the Heavenly Gondola, stopping at the observation deck on the way up to see the outstanding views. Top tip: explore more of Lake Tahoe for beautiful spots and easy, striking lakeside walks.

THIS IS A HOLIDAY ONE COULD NEVER FORGET. A country of contrasts, vibrant Cape Town has much to offer, from flat-topped Table Mountain down to the blue waters surrounding the coastlines, from its sandy bays with gorgeous beaches to its unforgettable sunsets, not forgetting the food and wine – which are simply the best. The Garden Route is nearly 200 miles long, and each stunning stretch offers something new to see. I stopped to see the whales in Hermanus and St. Francis Bay and stayed at some incredible boutique hotels en route. My holiday finished at the award-winning Pumba Game Reserve, with unforgettable animal encounters, accommodation, and service that is second to none. WISH YOU WERE THERE? NO PROBLEM. Some travel experiences are simply iconic .

but fame can mean longer queues, more crowding, higher costs or, in some cases, all three. Savvy travellers know how to experience the unforgettable without compromise. Time your journey right and take the path less trodden to get more from every holiday. Across the following pages, we’ll introduce some of the world’s most celebrated travel destinations and activities alongside tips and ideas to help you go further for less.

Staying in a villa over the lagoon in the Maldives. Kayaking around the limestone pillars of Thailand’s Phang Nga Bay. Riding the Rocky Mountaineer through the peaks of Canada. Roaming Kyoto as cherry blossoms burst into life. Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Sipping wine in California’s Napa Valley at sunset.

Every one of these adventures is extraordinary and renowned,

ALTERNATIVE SAKURA As April approaches, crowds flock to see delicate pink cherry blossoms cover trees across Japan. Tokyo and Kyoto burst at the seams, while Kansai and Mount Yoshino rise to the top of many people’s agendas. But these are far from the only places to witness this spectacular seasonal sight. Close to the major cities, Takayama is filled with captivating locations, including the iconic Nakabashi Bridge, Hida Gokoku Shrine at the foot of Mount Kinka, and the Kitayama Walking Path. On the coast, Kanazawa illuminates Kenroku-en, one of the three great gardens of Japan, enhancing the view for those who come to enjoy the bloom each evening. Further north and away from the crowds, Sendai’s magnificent castle in Aobayama Park, Kakunodate’s charming samurai district, and the specially-lit Hirosaki Park in Aomori all provide fantastic backdrops to Japan’s natural wonder.

THAILAND’S SMALLER ISLANDS Golden shores and a welcome as warm as the afternoon sun make Thailand one of the best beach destinations in the world. Millions travel to the exciting resorts of Phuket and Koh Samui, while Thailand’s smaller islands offer charm and adventure for those who look beyond the usual. Barefoot luxury hotels like Zeavola invite guests to Koh Phi Phi, an archipelago with pristine sands and lively towns for easy days and party nights. In the heart of Phang Nga Bay, Koh Yao Yai maintains a castaway atmosphere complemented by elegant hotels such as Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort & Villas and Santhiya Koh Yao Yai Resort & Spa. Quiet Koh Lanta offers sensational snorkelling and a waterfall-filled rainforest, providing an ideal backdrop for wellness retreats at the award-winning Layana.

A little extra travel reaps great rewards at this enchanting time of year.

A short sail from the coast makes it easy to upgrade a Thai beach holiday to an Andaman Island escape.

THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED AUSTRALIA HAS MANY WORLD-FAMOUS ATTRACTIONS,

Bondi Beach VS Lucky Bay

GREAT BARRIER REEF Cairns VS Heron Island

Cairns is a captivating city and the Great Barrier Reef’s most iconic gateway. However, a no less mesmerising way to experience the world’s most extensive coral reef system is Heron Island. Located to

the reef’s south, it’s a tropical paradise awaiting discovery.

Famous Bondi boasts pristine sands, a vibrant atmosphere, and a gnarly surf culture - offering the quintessential Aussie beach experience. Prefer a calmer pace? Lucky Bay at Cape Le Grand National Park is a magical alternative perfect for water-based activities and home to many wild kangaroos.

VS

BUT THESE LESSER-KNOWN ALTERNATIVES ARE JUST AS SPECTACULAR.

Kakadu National Park VS Grampians National Park Kakadu National Park has it all, from massive mammals and aquatic reptiles to Aboriginal rock art. Alternatively, Victoria’s Grampians National Park has inspired many writers and photographers and is home to the stunning MacKenzie Falls.

VS

Uluru VS The Kimberley

The Ghan Train The Indian Pacific

The famous Ghan runs between Darwin and Adelaide, with ever-changing epic views and inspiring stop-off spots. But if you’d prefer Perth and Sydney’s legendary sights, The Indian Pacific is just the ticket.

You’ve probably heard of Uluru - a huge sandstone monolith in the Northern Territory’s epic Red Centre. But don’t miss Western Australia’s Kimberley region, where steep-sided mountains meet vast swaths of wilderness. Both are breathtaking, and both are not to be missed.

Call 0204 579 7620 to book today.

LESS-TRAVELLED TRAILS When it comes to indulgence, you can’t beat rolling between vineyards, tasting small-batch wines and Michelin-worthy food as blue skies turn into spellbinding sunsets. California’s wine trail in the Napa and Sonoma valleys has become one of the US West Coast’s most iconic experiences, but the Golden State isn’t the only destination offering award-winning American wine at the edge of the Pacific. One state over, just a short distance north of San Francisco, mountains rise on the horizon as you drive through the Rogue Valley and the foodie city of Eugene before heading into the Willamette Valley and Portland beyond. Oregon’s cool, dry climate produces light wines with distinctive cherry and cranberry tastes in contrast to California’s full-bodied plum and blackberry notes. Try Oregon’s alternative trail for refreshing flavours with fewer crowds, or immerse yourself in a 13-day Pacific Northwest wine trail self-drive to enjoy and compare both regions.

COOLER CANADA A vast landscape at the edge of the Arctic with snowy mountains, great lakes, and famously friendly cities, Canada is home to some of the world’s most magnificent touring routes. Glide through spectacular terrain on a Rocky Mountaineer rail trip. Hear languages change as you follow the Saint Lawrence River through French-speaking Quebec. Take a trip around the historic Maritimes. Or, get off the beaten track in Yukon for something truly different. One of the lesser visited areas of Canada, Yukon experiences freezing winters, but its mild summers offer ideal conditions for exploring. Get to know unique towns like Whitehorse, Dawson City, and Haines Junction as you travel beside the Alaskan border through forests, open plains, and mountains. This territory offers dramatic landscapes and welcoming locals. You might even spot the Northern Lights.

Discover a different side of Canada on an 11-day classic Yukon Circle self-drive.

ISLAND EXPLORATION Holidays to the Indian Ocean usually mean castaway beaches and seafood banquets on tropical paradise islands like the Maldives, the Seychelles, and Mauritius. These destinations are perfect for romance and relaxation, but for a more expansive and varied travel experience, explore a less-visited Indian Ocean Island. Sri Lanka has bustling cities, ancient ruins, mystical temples, safari parks, and stunning beaches. On a private 13-day untouched magical isle of Sri Lanka tour, you’ll see elephants, sloth bears and maybe even elusive leopards in Wilpattu, visit the ancient palace of Mantri Manai in Jaffna, and sunbathe on white sands in Passikudah. You’ll climb the ancient rock fortress at Sigiriya, enter the cave temple of Dambulla, take high tea in Nuwara Eliya, and shop in Colombo’s capital city.

Take a different approach to the Indian Ocean and discover more on a bespoke tour of its most explorable island.

BEACHSIDE ANTIQUITY The Great Pyramids of Giza, the Colosseum in Rome, and Petra in Jordan are archaeological wonders that offer windows into ancient civilisations and attract millions of fascinated visitors. The Americas’ most famous archaeological site is Peru’s lost citadel of Machu Picchu, but the Yucatan city of Chichen Itza is at least 1,000 years older and just two hours from Mexico’s all-inclusive Caribbean beach resorts of Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and Cancun. Wake to a buffet breakfast by the ocean, take a short drive inland, swim in the cool water of a mesmerising underground cenote, tour Chichen Itza and its iconic El Castillo pyramid, and return to your coastal hotel in time for a nap before dinner. Or join a longer highlights of the Yucatan trip and fully immerse yourself in this ancient region between stays at two different Mexico beach resorts.

If Europe in the winter isn’t for you, start planning your 2024 summer break. Need a recommendation? Ikos Resorts in Greece and Spain occupy prime beachfront locations and offer a unique concept of Unconditional Luxury.

TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

TANZANIA? TEEMING WITH WILDLIFE

If you’re looking for incredible scenic beauty and unparalleled game-viewing, Tanzania’s national parks are your best bet. Tarangire National Park is a lesser-known safari experience but a gem of a game reserve and one famed for its show stopping elephant population. There’s also the volcanic caldera, Ngorongoro Crater, a conservation area filled with extraordinary wildlife, including over six species of antelope.

And, of course, you’ll also find the legendary Serengeti in Tanzania. Here, you’ll see the Big Five - lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos - not to mention a landscape stretching 30,000 square kilometres. Keep your eyes peeled, though, because zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, hippos, and gazelles are just some of the other animals you can expect to find.

BORN-EO TO BE WILD

Only a two-and-a-half-hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Borneo is a beautiful island where rich scenery meets incredible wildlife. Orangutans are often the top must-see here, and these orange-haired creatures can be seen in the wild or semi-wild environments like Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Other must-see animals include clouded leopards, rainbow-feathered birds, and whale sharks. Wondering where to go? Visit Danum Valley Conservation Area, an ancient rainforest with a thriving ecosystem or drift along the

meandering Kinabatangan River, a long waterway with some of the best spots for wildlife watching. A natural beauty, Borneo has many things to do, from hiking in national parks and strolling through tropical jungles to swimming beneath waterfalls and snorkelling amongst marine life. Incredible wildlife experiences await. Whether you fancy an eight-day SkySafari in Tanzania or a twin-centre holiday in Kuala Lumpur and Borneo, our Travel Specialists will curate your perfect wildlife-filled trip.
