Things to do REEF & BEACH SUBMARINE TOUR Take a ride on a semi-submarine for a unique adventure off Zanzibar’s beautiful coastline. Departing from Stone Town, you can stay above the water on the upper observation deck or look beneath the waves from the observation ports underneath. Witness the vibrant reefs and captivating marine life as you journey through the ocean. Explore Bawe Island before enjoying a delicious picnic lunch on a picturesque sandbank. A speedboat will be waiting to return you to Stone Town after lunch. This trip can be taken either in the morning or afternoon.

PRISON ISLAND

SPECTACULAR SPICES Zanzibar’s long history as a major producer of spices, particularly cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper, has led to it being commonly referred to as ‘Spice Island’. Take a tour of the countryside, visit small farms, and discover how these spices, medicinal plants, and tropical fruits have been grown for centuries.

Changuu Island, better known as Prison Island, is located around 30 minutes from Stone Town by boat. Originally built to house prisoners, the island became a quarantine station during the Yellow Fever epidemic and the jail built there in 1893 still stands today. The island is also home to the Aldabra giant tortoises.
