MARGARET RIVER

When it’s time to drive back to Perth, make sure you go via Wave Rock. This striking landform resembles a gigantic wave, with its multi coloured granite curving around for more than 100 metres, and rising 15 metres into the sky. You can also see ancient Aboriginal rock art, bright wildflowers, and a variety of birds.

Margaret River is one of Australia’s biggest wine regions, and produces more than a quarter of the country’s premium wines. So, why not visit a vineyard or two during your road trip? You can sample fruity Cabernet and crisp Sauvignon Blanc, and enjoy a platter of delicious local produce.

This majestic forest is made up of ancient Tingle trees, some of which are more than 400 years old. To really take it all in, we’d recommend strolling along the Treetop Walk. High up in the leafy canopy, this impressive path weaves through the age old trees, and allows you to admire the panoramic views.

Wave Rock

Just a five-minute walk from Greens Pool, you can visit the stunning rock formation known as Elephant Rocks. This small bay showcases sugary white sands, turquoise waters and curved boulders which look like a herd of elephants – hence the name. Both Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks are part of the William Bay National Park, which boasts stunning scenery and a beautiful stretch of coastline. It’s a lovely place to bring a picnic and while away a lazy afternoon.

CAPE LE GRAND NATIONAL PARK A short drive from Esperance, this national park boasts one of Australia’s best beaches, Lucky Bay. You’re sure to be impressed by the azure waters and talc-white sands – but the kangaroos steal the show. Dozens of Australia’s favourite marsupial can often be seen lolloping and sunbathing along the sands, so you’ll have no trouble snapping a photo of Joey and friends. 5

OUR PICK OF THE BUNCH

Fancy a dip? Greens Pool is one of the prettiest swimming spots you’ll ever see. You’ll find it in the town of Denmark, known for its lush woodlands and beautiful Harding River. Protected by huge rocks, this aquamarine lagoon looks like something straight off a postcard. And the calm sea is ideal for swimming and paddle-boarding.
