Central America The narrow strip of land between Mexico and Colombia doesn’t look like much on a map, but up close, it is very different. Covering roughly the same area as Spain, this bridge between North and South America contains seven small but mighty nations. Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama divide the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea to form Central America, a region of ancient empires and colonial conquests that contains some of the best-hidden gem destinations in the Western Hemisphere. Nowhere is more captivating than wild and colourful Costa Rica. A natural wonderland between two oceans, home to 5% of the species on Earth, its rainforests and mangroves are overflowing with life.
